Another missed post

07/10/12-07/18/12

Wednesday Becca, Grace and I went to Florida Mall, the bus is a nightmare to get there, it didn't show for ages and then took an hour to drive there. I didn't buy much but had a good mooch around. Becca and I were hungry so we went to the food court, which obviously meant walking around tasting all the tasters about 5 times each, by this time we had had enough of having Chinese so we has Taco Bell instead followed by a yummy frozen yoghurt. I headed over to Robyn's after shopping to just chill, but ended up with a spontaneous trip to Hollywood Studios to watch Fantasmic (with the bus leaving in 10 minutes so we ran there, only for it to leave 5 minutes early) as Robyn had not seen it before.

Rach, Anne-Lise and I went over to Epcot to get crepes. We got the crepes but also ended up walking around the world meeting different characters, having yummy margaritas and nachos and also riding soarin. Happy birthday to mum for Thursday! I finally got my nails redone and had my eyebrows waxed with the lovely question "do you want your lip done as well?" love the Americans and their way to make you feel better. Apparently it's now part of our visa requirement to attend a cultural event each modish otherwise we will be sent home to England, so afraid of this happening we all headed over to the Grocery Bingo. I was so so close to winning on quite a few occasions but just missed out. To finish the night I went over to Alexis', he was leaving the next day so we all had a few drinks and said our goodbyes, first one to leave :(

Missing Posts

Face to Face

Two weeks waiting for Disney feels like a lifetime! 1st November I was in the library with a couple of people from my group and instead of doing work I was on Facebook, my sister asked me to enter a question on This Morning that could win us a trip to Disney World. After registering I went on my email to authorise it and found an email from Yummy Jobs, I opened it thinking it would just be some information, but OMG it was an email explaining I had been accepted to the next stage, face to face. I jumped and screamed with shock and happiness, then realised I was in the library, had a few strange glances especially off my friends, so I felt I had to explain to them. The email explained that I would need to go up to Chester on 11th November (11.11.11). I got straight on to making arrangments, I needed time off Uni to go and needed to book trains and a hotel. Hannah and I had planned to go and see Disney on Ice the night before my interview, so arranged to go straight from Sheffield.
The morning of my interview I woke up feeling horribly sick and wishing someone was with me to support me, I was so nervous.

The long awaited email....

I felt like there had been many signs pointing to that possibility that I may slightly have the chance of going to Florida. My interview date was on 11.11.11, it was to take place in Chester which is my dogs name and when I was walking home from Uni, I saw Nick who works at Yummy Jobs a day or two before I received my email.  I didn't want to jinx anything though so I tried to ignore them...

I was a nightmare to be friends/family with over the few weeks between my face to face interview and receiving the email. As I felt that my face to face had gone really bad I was sure that I wouldn't be going to Disney. But on the 29th November, Sarah, who I had met at the interview text me asking if I had received an email. I hastily opened my emails to find one from Yummy Jobs with just the subject Disney Summer Work Experience. This was it the moment I had been waiting for for ages, I was so scared to open the email and scroll down to find out the answer. I plucked up the courage and YES I did it!!!!!
After reviewing your application and interview we are delighted to be the first to say

Congratulations

You have been offered a place on Disney’s Summer Work Experience for 2012.

Your role in the show will be in Operations.

Your Summer Work Experience with Disney will commence on 10th June 2012 and conclude on 31st August 2012.

The whole of Leeds must have heard me screaming, I literally ran around my house and was bouncing on the sofas, I rang my family and best friends and burst in to tears. Finally after all this time (3 months after applying, it's a long time!) I knew I had succeeded and I would be heading out to Florida for the Summer. Although my dream had come true I the began to have doubts. Was this the right thing for me to be doing? Would it ruin the magic and all the memories I have of Disney. This went on for a while, meaning my family had to put up with me for even longer, I do apoligise!! I came to my senses and snapped out of it and was able to enjoy the moment.

Let's take it back.

I've been meaning to write a post for ages. I created this blog months ago but can never find the time to write. I have no clue how I'm going to find time in Florida if I struggle at home, but I think some of it may be down to lazyness.
Back in August I applied through Yummy Jobs to work out Walt Disney World Florida. I hadn't done any research into what I would be doing if I was accepted, but due to my love for Disney I gambled and took the risk, also applications closed that night so it was either now or never (possibly next year). After applying I had a look on the site and found the different job roles you could apply for. After clicking apply it was a long wait until 28th September, when I received an email explaining I had been invited to complete a phone interview. I opened the email whilst at Uni and was so excited I had a little jump around and called my mum straight away. I decided to wait until I was back at home in Jersey to have my interview as I did not want to tell anyone except my family and best friends, just in case I did not get in. The day of the interview (nearly a month after receiving the email) finally arrived. I had tried to prepare for it by reading blogs and watching videos on YouTube which I really found helped. I had everything prepared on the table and was just waiting for the phone to ring. I felt sick, so so nervous, it was horrible!! All of my family were either at work or school so there was no-one to talk to in the house. I resorted in putting on Disney Parade music and dancing around the lounge to it, resulting in me being slightly out of breath when my phone rang 8 minutes late. Those 8 minutes were horrible, there were many different questions whizzing through my mind, was my phone broken? did they decide they didn't want me? Awful! But when the phone did ring I took a big breath and spoke to the lovely Becky, she was ever so kind and really made me feel relaxed. I was asked why I wanted to take part in the programme, what I would gain, what I would find difficult and what could I bring to the team. My phone call barely lasted 5 minutes, which panicked me when I got off the phone as other people had said there's were a lot longer. Becky explained Yummy Jobs would get back to us in the next few weeks so once again the waiting game began...

Disney Liverpool Meet

Today was finally the day of the Liverpool meet, all week I had been feeling a bit nervous at meeting everyone but also very excited! Last night I could barely sleep due to excitement, I felt as if I was actually going to Florida, so God help me when it's the night before we fly out.
I met the girls at the train station with a couple of others then we headed of to 'Spoons. We found a good spot and then people kept on flowing in asking "Disney?", we must have looked quite weird to any outsiders as a couple of times we went round the table telling everyone our names and what we would be doing out in Florida. After Weatherspoons we all headed off to a pub, pref with a beer garden, to enjoy the gorgeous weather! We were then accompanied by a couple of live bands playing, it got to the point where we were all shouting over the music so decided to leave. Mini Golf was mentioned as the next activity, but that seemed to be forgotten quite quickly. By the time we decided to move on I had to go catch my train, I said my farewells and tottled off smiling and feeling relieved with how today went and the lovely people I had met.
Was lovely to meet everyone that came and was really good to finally put a name to some of the faces I have been speaking to for a while on Facebook. Was so surreal saying goodbye to people and then saying see you in Florida, I can't wait!

One more Disney day

Whilst I was away traveling I was really missing the safety net of the Disney bubble and the friends that I had made when I was there. I decided that I couldn't go home without going back one more time. I emailed STA and luckily they were able to change my flight to a day later. I messaged the girls all excited and arranged with Molly to stay in All Star Sports hotel for the night. The excitement built up over the days. We were last traveling in San Francisco, to get back to Orlando I had to get two flights. My first flight was delayed so I was panicking as 1. I didn't have any spare clothes in my hand luggage and 2. I thought I would miss my connecting flight, meaning I would have even less time to spend with my girls and at Disney. Luckily though the first flight made time up and we were able to make our Orlando flight. Arriving at the terminal I was worrying once again about my suitcase, especially as most peoples cases had come through apart from mine and the people on the flight from San Francisco, but finally it came through and I rushed down to the Magical Express to begin my Disney Day. I was sat on the bus (by myself) so excited, watching the welcome video, smiling away! As soon as we arrived at the hotel I ran off, nearly forgetting my case, in a hurry to see my girl Molly, I found her hiding away in the food court, eagerly waiting for a big reunion hug.

Reunited after a very long 3 weeks apart!

I quickly got ready and we embarked on our adventure. Our first stop was Hollywood Studios. Of course we headed over for Rock 'N' Roller Coaster then to Tower of Terror, which turned out to be even more exciting as it was a complete different ride path to usual. Florida weather decided to hit and it monsooned, drenching us both and making our decision of leaving the rides and going for cocktails instead quite an easy choice. After our delicious Magical Star cocktail, we headed over to the workplace. We rode Spaceship Earth, and I finally got to ride Donalds ride in Mexico after being in the park everyday for the last three months. We then over to The Land to be greeted by the one and only lovely Becky. We waited around until she got off work and Aliyah met us. We rode our ride, no objections there, and I was quizzed by my manager, of course my faviourite question "How old do children have to be to ride?", keeping up with tradition I obviously answered wrongly resulting in being hit over the head by said manager as a full boat of guests watched on. Feeling peckish we headed over to China before watching Illuminations. Molly and I wanted to make the most of our Magic Hours so we walked around the world before crawling back to our hotel for well needed sleep.

Friday morning I woke up to the joy of having to repack my case for the last time and for my last play in the parks, and even more excitedly to be reunited with my California girls.
Had an amazing last day with some of my fave Americans, spent in Magic Kingdom and finishing in Epcot. I finally bought a photopass picture to go in my Mickey frame. Ended my visit to Magic Kingdom dancing away to "Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!" Street Party Parade, definitely my face parade!! But then had to say "see ya real soon" to Krista as she was off to work :(
The rest of us headed over to Epcot, for even more See ya real soons and a little stroll. I'm glad I made the decision to go back for one more magical day, but it definitely didn't make leaving any easier though. So much love for my American girls, but hopefully we will be reunited soon!!

Creating the magic

I've had quite a busy two weeks sinc writing the last post, but I promise I'm going to start writing each night and post more often, beginning from today!

06/27/12 - 07/10/12

On the Wednesday we had our Social Security meeting, we had to be up to meet for it at 6am. I arrived at the front desk still feeling groggy and something made me check my sheet, I realised I was supposed to be at the meeting the day before, but luckily I was able to go that day. We travelled to the office, had our interview and were back again by about 830 9ish which was ingood time as we were wrned it could take six hours. I was supposed to go to FloridaMall but instead we went to Walmart, then chilled by the pool and had a delicious Chinese.

Thursday was such a good day! Rachs results day! Rach,Becca and I began our day early by meeting on the bus to take us to Fort Wildrness Lodge. As I haven't been there before I was excited to go and explore as one of my faviourite videos as a child was filmed in that resort with the characters exploring and singing. It lived up to expectations! We had a buffet breakfast whih set us up for the busy day ahead. It was delicious, and was finished off with Mickey waffles. We had a little wonder around the lake and found out we can hire a boat and drive around the Seven Seas Lagoon so that is definitely a must whilst we are out here. As the bus took so long to get there in the morning,we decided to take the boat across to Magic Kingdom, meeting a lovely family from North Carolina on the way, which obviously meant I had a long conversation with them about everything that has been filmed there, especially One Tree Hill! As we were arriving the Move it Shake It Parade was starting so we watched it and also were part of it! Dancing and singing along in the middle of the parade! Straight ater we headed over to Splash Mountain and did a few rides in Frontierand. I finally got to ride the train, after 3 weeks of being here. We obviously had the obligatory photos with mickey and Minnie, whilst Becca and I were trying to arrange a card for Rach without her knowing, this involved lot of me disapearing and trying to buy a card. Disney really should start selling cards other than postcards! I had already asked the character atendant if Mickey and Minnie culd sign Rach card and I would ick it up later but after we had seen Mickey and Minnie I ran back to hand her the card and she allowed me to go in myself. I had a cute moment with them when I explained we were going for cocktails to celebrate, sure Mickey was jealous!
For the evening we headed over to the Polynesian resort. Which also meant I had survived my day at Magic Kingdom!!! It only took thre attempts aha. We ventured upstairs and celebrated with a bottle of Champagne and had some yummy nibbles. It was then time for Wishes so we headed back down to the beach, bought a few cocktails and watched Tarzan before Wishes started. Wathing Wishes from the beach was such a lovely experience, definitely going to take the family there when they come over!

On Sunday I finally moved to Patterson. I decided to move as all the people I spend my time with in Florida live in that complex and honestly it has been the best decision! I'm now able to go home wth them instead of having to get off the bus alone and also able to just go round to theres without having to fully arrange something and get the bus over, also can now just go down to the pool to chill and will be guranteed someone else will come down and join, I just love it here!! I was so so grateful that Nikita offered to meet me after work to help move my stuff across. Somehow I had acquired three suitcases full of things, when I only came out with one, I am yet to do any shopping so really don't understand that!! Iamnow living with a girl from Italy and four othergirls, I'm not too sure where they are from but they are all lovely.

I've been really forgetfu and keep forgetting to write in my diary what I have done, so I'm kind of missing out on a few days frommy memory!

After work one afternoon I headed over to Hollywood Studios with Rach, Martha and Lauren. We art the 50's Prime time Diner, and the food was devine!!! I had a pot roast which was a change to the fast food so I really enjoyed it and it felt homely. For desert we shared brownie which was also delicious! We tried to work our cast member magic by attempting to get me on Rock n Roller Coaster even though I didn't have a fast pass but the cast member was having none of it. The queues for all the rideswere pretty long so we drove over to Epcot and had a little mooch around. Arriving back at Patterson we were meant to be having a chilled film night but instead we headed to the pool for a pool party. Not before Jess could shw us her flexibility and that she could fit into Charlies suitcase, being wheeled around for ages.

I had a bit of a down couple of hours at work, I have no clue why, but I had been in Video Monitor which always makes me tired as it's so dark but I came out and went to Circle. I was watching the characters in Garden Grill, and I just felt like all the magic had gone. I felt so drained and upset but luckily a family came along with a little girl dressed as a princess and she put the magic back into me. I don't want that feeling again, it was horrible!!! So a big thank you goes out to that little girl andher family!!

It was then Fourth July, I was supposed to have the day off but I had been asked to work, but luckiy I was oly give a 09:00 - 15:00 shift so after work I headed home to meet the girls before we went out to Hollywood Studios. The park was busy so we did not goon any rides but had a ice walk around and met Sorcerer Mickey before finding our places in front of the hat to watch the fireworks. They were absolutely amazing and they were accompanied with fantastic music which made them even better.

Thursday was my day off so after the compulsory hour at the pool we went to Animal Kingdom. I watched the Nemo Musical for the first time ever and it was quite good, but I really didn't want to have to endure it for a second time 15 minutes later when Charlie thought she had lost her phone so we were told we had to sit through it. Luckily it had been found on Dinosaur so we could escape. We were able to ride Expedition Everest three times in a row, I absolutely love this ride!!!

Aftr work on Saturday it was finally time to attempt the Kitchen Sink. Before eating we were in the arcades, I had to have a go on the basketball game before we could go anywhere, just to add I definitely beat Sarah!! Han, Sarah, Jamie, Kristen, Emily and I were the contenders for the Kitchen Sink. The Kitchen Sink is literally a kitchen sink with so many scoops of ice cramand every topping possible, which turned out pretty horrible as there was a lot of peanut buttter!!! We were defeated, we were unable to finish it, more because of how much peanut buttter was in it as we were still hungry. Whilst we were inside a nother group ordered the same, this was a horribke eperience, they destroyed it, getting fod everywhere, being really loud and just not a pretty sight. There was also another family that had a little boy with them, he kept glancing over at us, so we offered him a bowl of ice cream and he happily took it, walking off telling his dad that us guys rocked. I am determined to go back and compete it, but will be definitly asking for them to subsititute a couple of items.

Sunday, Sarah , Jamie and I decided to meet early at 8:00 to get the bus to Magic Kingdom. I had work at 12:00 so wanted to cram in as much as possible before. We rode Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyer and watched the Laugh Floor. Space Mountain was really good as I couldn't really remember the lay out of the ride which made it even more exciting. I then had to unwillingly leave Sarah and Jamie to head over to work. I took the monorail over, crazy how I cn just take the monorail to work, much prefer it to the buses!!
At work I was given the assignment of 'Magical Moment'. I had to choose a young child that would be Captain on the boat. I made sure I waited until I found the cutest little girl. She was so so happy that I had picked her and she had biggest smile on her face, her mum even started crying. The little girl Ava was to sit at the front of the boat, wave to everyone and give me a signal so that we culd send the boat off. Her an her family all lookedso pleased which really made my day!!
After work I went over to Jos before we went to House of Blues, it was a really good night once again!

Tuesday was Nikitas birthday!! Our orignal plan was to go to Cocoa beach, but the mini bus was going to be too expensive so the plan changed to Miami, which then changed to us having a chilled day instead. We went over to Niks apartment for 11 and she opened her cards and presents and had her birthday cake. We then decided we would spend the day in Animal Kingdom. We finally watched the Festival of the Lion King. I still find it as breathtaking as the fist time, I love it so much and could watch it repeatedly. We then ran back for a cheeky couple of tripson Expedition Everest and the Kali River Rapids, leaving us drenched for the ride home. Animal Kingom closed at 8 which was far too early to go home, so Nik, Rach, Becca and I decided to go to Magic Kingdom. We ate some dinner then found areally good spot in front of the castle to watch, 'The magic, the memories and you". This was amazing, but I don't want to say too much as I know my family have never seen it before and I want them to experience it first hand! We then watched wishes which is stunning, we did have to wait as there was a half hour delay but it made it evenmore special. Instead of battling our way to the exit we rode Space Mountain just before the park closed then jumped on the boat over to the Grand Floridian as we decided it would be easier getting home from there. The hotel is amazing. We walked around in awe takingpictures and fascinated, such a gorgeous hotel!! Today was definitely one of my faviurite days since eing here, I absolutely loved it!!!

So from now on Ipromise I will write down what I do each day and post more often!! xxxxxxxxx

Week 3

I can't believe I have already been here 3 weeks. The time has flown by!!

Nothing spectacular has happened at work since I began, just been pretty normal and sometimes quite boring. Already decided that I don't like unload or dispatch, something always happens with the ride when I am on dispatch! Let me go 'Front Doors' and I'll be happy greeting the guests all day whilst catching a bit of sun. Although it is so so hot!! Each day I feel like I'm melting at work and it's only going to get hotter!

I've made sure I've kept myself busy whilst being out here. On Saturday Sarah and I went over to Epcot before work and just took our time. Had a few pictures with the characters (and friends) and rode the Norway ride. I am still yet to have walked around the world and I am in the place 5 days a week.

After work on Sunday we headed over to House of Blues. Prior to leaving work it was torrential rain and awful weather but we all got dressed up and headed out for a good night! Unfortunately it was cut short as the club closed at 130 and we only arrived at 12 but there will be plenty more nights.

On Monday it was Sophie R' birthday so after work I attempted to get over to Downtown Disney which wasn't as easy as it should have been thanks to bus drivers forgetting to stop at certain places. We went to Portebellos and had a lovely meal to celebrate.

Tuesday started out as a lovely day, woke up and got the bus to Magic Kingdom with Sophie and Georgina. We picked up fastpasses for Splash Mountain and rode the Haunted Mansion whilst we were waiting. I rode on my own and found it alot more scarier than usual. It was then our fastpass time so we queued for all of 5 minutes and got onto the ride. I stupidly misheard the girl at merge, I though she said all 3 on the same boat but she actually said row, so all 3 of us, with child bearing hips were squeezed in to the back row of Splash Mountain. This was fineish until the ride went 101, we were at the bottom of the big flume and the annoucement came "looks like Briar Bear andd Briar Fox have been causing some trouble". The ride lights then came on and a cast member came out. I kind of hoped we would be evacuated as we were so squashed! But after half an hour of false 'the ride will begin immediately' the ride then powered up again and we completed Splash Mountain full of happiness! We also got a fastpass to any ride in Magic Kingdom as a sorry for the inconvinience. We had decided to eat at Liberty Tavern and had to race over there as we were late due to the ride being down. When we got in there though my eye started to go blurry, I expected it was from being outside in the bright light to coming inside to the dark. We ordered our food which was delicious but then a migraine came on. I was meant to be in work later on so I called in and asked if I could come in later, in the hope that I could go home and sleep it off. This did not happen as by the time I had reached the TTC my voice was already slurred so I just called in completely and went home and slept. The pain was awful and I just wanted my mum to be there!! I was also quite annoyed because yet again I had to leave Magic Kingdom due to not feeling very well. We had planned to watch the parade and ride Space Mountain with our fastpass but I missed out on that.

Week 2

It is so hard trying to find the time to update this!!

Briefly, I had training which was good, some parts were really boring where we had to read page after page but the hands on part was more fun. I'm beginning to feel less anxious about working there now, which is good. For my first attempt at Spieling the Circle of Life a family asked to video me and kept saying how nervous I looked, I obviously messed this one up.
My spiel is.. "Hello everyone, my name is Tori and I would like to welcome you to 'The Circle of Life' an environmental fable featuring Simba, Timone and Pumba from Disney animated feature the Lion King. In just a moment these automated doors will open towards you, so for your safety please remind behind the yellow line. When they open please take small children by the hand and watch your step as you descend into the theatre. Also, please refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, flash photography and video recording whilst inside the theatre. Thank you and enjoy the show."
My second time saying the spiel I had a girl start talking over me, I paused, and looked at her, close to the 'look of death', that was definitely the teacher in me coming out. I didn't even realise I had done it, but I've begun to block it all out and talk over them.
Also whilst in training the ride decided to stop working 16 times in the space of 5 hours, I was in control a couple of the times which was a bit scary as there was so many people of higher authortiy around. But I tried to stay calm and got through it. Whilst on training I had a little walk around Hollywood Studios and ate at Longhorn Steakhouse and Hooters. I have been craving the chicken wing covered in parmesan and garlic since going there!

My assessment was on Tuesday, apart from having a woman mimick my voice nothing really happened out of the norm. My assessment went fine and I passed which meant.. I have earnt my ears, yay!! I am now a fully pledged cast member! A couple of us did the dreaded Walmart run then I went round to Amys to play Vodka Pong for my first time!

Wednesday was my first day off since being here. For our welcoming we had 'Breakfast with the characters'. We arrived at 9am to be greeted by a long queue, so we queued up for 45 minutes and got to meet Minnie and Mickey in their pyjamas. There was then another queue for breakfast, which was pancakes and french toast. In the pavillion there was a little rave going on, felt a bit weird for it being only 10am but it was good! A few of us had planned to go to Epcot so we set off and spent the day over there. We stayed to watch Illuminations which were amazing and then Charlie, Jess and I headed over to Jellyrolls. I love this place!! Jellyrolls is a bar with two guys playing the piano and you can request songs, it was such a chilled funny night, love it!

Thursday Charlie, Jess and I went over to Hollywood Studios, it was their first time so they were all excited which made me feel even more excited! We were also joined by Rach, Becca and Nikita later on in the day. Was such a good day, was my first time riding the new Star Tours and Toy Story Mania ride, they were both throughly enjoyed. Charlie and I definitely were a bit competitive on Mania! Of course we watched Beauty and the Beast, and I got a little bit teary in between singing my hart out. We ate a stunning meal at an Italian restaurant before two rides on Rock 'n Roller Coaster and to top the night off we watched Fantasmic. Even though I have seen the show before I still sat in absolute awe and loved it!!

Yesterday was my first day at work after my assesmment. Katie needed to sort out her bank account over at Disney University so I went over with her to cure my boredom. Obama was at the Contemporary giving a speech so we attempted to go see him. This failed as we were five hours early.. We popped in to Magic Kingdom to have my first official picture with Mickey and Minnie, then headed to Cast Connections. Then it was work time, as i was about to leave for work it started torrential raining, which made my day... I clocked in and my first assignment was dispatch, I was so worried the ride would go down like it did when I was last working, but alas dispatch went fine both times I operated. I then was assigned wheelchair assist, well I forgot to help a guest in a wheelchair out of the boat, so they sat there for a little bit longer, i was unable to move an ECV and the guests thuoght I had broke it so another cast member was called to help, I tried to hide around the corner sheepishly and then a girl decided to stand up and exit the boat before we had stopped the ride so i asked her to sit down and as she sa down i was repeating myself but the sit part only came out, so i sounded like i was talking to a dog, she wasn't pleased! Apart from that my first day went fine. Hopefully today I will pull circle!

Finally arrived cont.

I apoligise that this blog may be quite long as I have 5 days to cover.

Beginning from where I left off; after my lovely early wake ups we made our way to the airpot and met up with failiar faces from the facebook group, checked in and headed through security. Panic hit me as the queue was so so long as one of the restaurants had set off the fire alarm so the Airport had to be evacuated which also delayed our fliht by 40 minutes. The flight was fine, I watched TheVow and Footloose and sitting with all the other 'Cast members' definitely helped to pass the time. Obviously the long awaited cocktail was yummy!! It was then time for the dreaded immigration, luckily this went very smoothly and actualy quite quickly so we were all able to make our way to Vista Way. We checked in and found out where we would be living, I'm at Vista Way. Luckily my housemate is one of the girls from my flight and one I have spoken to quite a bit. We are living with 3 Americans and a Spanish girl. Our first bit of drama couldn't wait too long afer we arrived though, Bec realised that she had the wrong suitcase so after spending an hour on the phone with no help we trapesed back to the Airport to absolutely sprint around to find her suitcase, locked away in a room where we could see it. There was no one around so we went back the next day and were eventually able to collect it!! The Walmart shop after this fiasco was no fun, which then led to me having no food except for Poptarts for the first 4 days, woops.

Orientation days started which consisted of 2 days of filling out a lot of paperwork and watching videos, mainly about how you can be terminated.

I had my first trip to Dunkin' Doughnuts and it did not dissapoint!! I went with Bec and agreeed that she would be my honary sister as she had borrowed my top as she had no luggage and as I've only been with my family, so it was cute!

Tuesday was a silly day for me! A few of us had a lovely afternoon by the pool, but I forgot to put suncream on my legs which has resulted in them still being burnt and heat coming from them 3 days later, lesson learnt!! For dinner we took a trip to CiCis, I've really lost my appetite since being in the heat!

Traditions class was on Wednesday, we found out about the history of Disney, had a backstage and onstage walk through the Magic Kingdom and the chance to win some character criters, I won two, for sharing my Disney memory, being team leader and answering a question where Mickey honoured me with the treat. I obviously got all teary watching all the videos and sat through it thinking is this actually real?! Traditions also meant that we were given our I.D cards which means we have free entrance into the 4 parks for three months, yes FREEE!!!!!

A group of us decided to take full advantage of our ID cards and headed straight off to the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately the afternoon was short lived for me as I think I had a bit of sunstroke and that mixed with the heat didn't work for me, so I had to leave the queue for Thunder Mountain and my Splash Mountain Fastpass behind and head home. The girls didn't really want to stay any longer either, so we all headed back and me and Becca went to Applebees for a relaxed dinner.

Thursday was a fun day! We had 'Discovery Day' at Epcot, (Experimental prototype community of tomorrow - need to learn this in case I am asked!) we found out about the history of Epcot and had a tour around the park. I also rode my first ride in Disney, Spaceship Earth, woo! I also found out that I will be working in The Land. When I found out I was working in Epcot I was gutted, it is my least faviourite park and there isn't any big rides there and also I wouldn't get to see much of the little Princesses, but I came round to it and was settling with the idea. Then I found out I was working in the Land, which includes Living with the Land and The Circe of Life, probably the most rubbish and least visted attractions out of the four parks. This took gutted to another exteme, I have paid around £1000 to be here and I'm working there, really not happy!!! But as everyone is saying - it's what you make of it. To cheer me up we headed over to Animal Kingdom, spent a lovely afternoon riding a few attractions and getting caught in a thunderstorm, which drenched us. Didn't help that I was wearing my white linens to cover up my sunburn, thesewere now seethrough! We ate in the Rainforest Cafe, it was nice, but I think after I've experienced it once I won't be rushing back again.

So in general, I am loving life in Florida so far and have made some lovely friends already and cannot wait for the memories to continue!!!

Finally arrived

After 6 and a half months of waiting, June 10th finally arrived. If flew over to Manchester the day before my flight and checked in to Travelodge overnight. Becca decided she would travel down early and come and stay with me which was lovely, at least I wouldn't be alone. I had a little nap whillst waiting or her to arrive as I'd been so busy whilst I'd been home so I definitely needed to cacth up on some sleep. At around 5 Becca arrived, we had a little catch up and realised we had confused ourselves with our conversation about checking in. Back in January we had reserved our seats, we were all sat together which was fine, but then a couple of nights before anothr girl mentioned that we may not be sitting next to each other,so we checked online and as long as we checked in online up to 13 hoursbefore our flight we would be fine, although Becca thought I meant after 13 hours. This meant us rushing over to the hotel next door and racing against the credit clock to check in and print the documents in time, we made it!
We had a lovely meal at the restaurant, when it arrived, and also recieved a free drink and breakfast in the morning as our server was very rude! Slipping in to bed filled with excitement we drank our wine and tried to get agood nights sleep. That didn't happen, at 1am I woke up full of energy, saying morning to Becca and that I was going to jump in the shower, only to find it was only 1am

Application process

I remember receiving the email that said I had been accepted on to the programme, that has to be one of the happiest moments of my life so far. I remember running and jumping around the lounge screaming with excitement whilst calling my mum and the girls to tell them the news. They must have been so relieved to hear i got through as i put them through hell during this process...
Phone interview;
My phone interview was to take place when I was at home in Jersey, a couple of days before my birthday. I'm glad I was home for it as I didn't want to be in the house and have the chance of an of the girls hearing as if I was to not be accepted I would feel embarrassed that I hadn't got in. The morning of my interview, everyone was either at college or work so I set up in the lounge with all my notes. I had watched videos and read blogs that told me what to expect for my interview, which I found helped me to relax and I felt as prepared as i could be. The morning seemed to drag, I watched more videos ( it felt like a last minute revision session) and when I couldn't take any more the Disneyland Paris album started to play. 'Dancin' a catchy rhythm' was on repeat and i danced around the room crazily until it get far too close to my interview for my liking and I also had to catch my breath back so I sat and waited. And waited, and waited, by this point I thought my phone may have broken as they were late calling. But at long last my phone rang. I spoke to Becky who was so lovely and calmed my nerves, all the preparation I had done seemed to go out the window as I wasn't asked any of the questions, but then I am glad that I had them just incase. Nearing the end of the phone call I was feeling confident but after the call and seeing that my interview had only lasted 6 minutes, my mood started to deflate. I was worried I had said the wrong things and that Becky couldn't wait to get me off the phone. I remember my mum and gran both saying that she has probably heard what she wanted ,to hear and didn't need to ask any of the other questions, but I seriously doubted this. I tried to put the interview to the back of my mind...
Face to face interview;
Another long wait later, I received an email saying I had got through to the next stage and would have to go to Chester for my face to face interviews, pretty sure I let out a little yelp in the library. I organised my train and hotel for the night and was off to Chester. I arrived with plenty of time to Chester uni and I felt so sick and nervous, we had a little presentation and question time where i won a little prize for answering what the four parks were called then we all were told what time our interviews were at. Luckily I didn't have to wait too long for mine but whilst I waited I sat and talked to one of the other girls. When my interview arrived I went in with another girl and was interviewed by a man that works in Downtown Disney. I wasn't too keen on the interview, I felt like it was a battle between me and the girl, even though we had been told that they can take on how many people they want. I left the interview feeling like I hadn't answered the questions very well, and kicked myself every time I thought of it or something popped into my head that I should have said. I decided to get the train back to Leeds earlier, instead of hanging around as I felt so bad about how it had gone. I spent the next couple of weeks going over and over the interview wishing it had been different. I was definitely being a silly moo, when on 29th November my Congratulations email came through. Yes!!! I'd done it. Worrying and stressing over...nope! Disney had asked for us to reply with if we were going to accept the position, I rushed my reply saying of course I would take it, thinking to myself why would anyone turn an opportunity like this down. But then my thoughts started to kick in, do I really want to work in Disney and spoil the magic that I have grown up with for the past 21 years. Mum kicked my mind back in to place and not me not to be so stupid, this is something I had wanted to do for so many years so I picked myself up and got on with planning my Summer. Right now I am so glad that I had the support of my friends and family that have helped me along this process. I was an emotional wreck, always doubting myself and constantly thinking i hadn't done well enough, but it goes to show how wrong I was. To a Summer of a lifetime xxx

Single digits

Only 9 days 'till I jet off to America. I've neglected this blog since coming home to Jersey. I've been so busy with finishing off my placement, working, gyming it and catching up with friends and family. In between all that I've been trying to sort out things for Florida. I'm organised paperworkwise but clotheswise, no chance! I have far too many clothes and it isn't helped by me going out and buying more and not having the motivation to try it on and return the clothes that I don't want. I have a busy week ahead with long shifts and cramming the gym in at any possible chance. I'm also seeing the kids for practically the first and last time this Summer, which is crazy as last year I was nannying for them everyday. Miss seeing them grow up, always such a shock when I come back after a few weeks and they've changed so much, and now the next time I see them will be in 4 months. I'm having a leaving BBQ, hopefully it will be down the beach, weather permitting.

The girls and I on the flight have arranged to meet before we check in so at least we won't be on our own in the airport. I can't wait to be with them all again. So for now all I have to do is find my Birth Certificate and pack. OHHH and I need to sort out my iPad that I bought nearly two weeks ago and it's still unopened, but I'm going to let my brother help with the setting up when he gets back from London today as I have no clue what to do!

Week in photos #1

Treat night with Becca and Cat * Finishing the dreaded essay * US Embassy for my Visa appointment
Dirty Dancing * My amazing Gran * Having a cheeky siesta

Shopping spree for Florida * Never able to pack light * Cup of tea and last slice of Grans cake

I've had quite a productive week (except for uni work). I went down to London to get my Visa and it was accepted, woo! Whilst I was down South, I went to visit my grandparents, had a lovely time with them, catching up, shopping and going to see dirty dancing. Back to reality now, with only one week until I am home!!

Faith, trust and pixie dust

This post is a selection of random pictures linked to my trip to Florida.

The beginning of this journey

Although this isn’t Disney, I still consider it apart of the vacation. And this is always exciting.
Taking the monorail through the airport, having the excitement rising.

I didn't realise you could do this, so I looked in to it tonight. It's a bit pricey but would be amazing! The same company also do wave runners so will hopefully be able to try out these. I've added them to my bucket list so fingers crossed they will be crossed off.

On one of my days off I will attempt this, I definitely want to be there for opening with my family one day to see the morning train with all the characters. Surely it won't be hard to spend the whole day in the most amazing place in the world?!

There’s really nothing better than that moment when you’re approaching the park on the Monorail. I still get just as excited as I did when I was a kid.
I still get as excited as I did when I was a little girl.
Great memories of doing this with the family last year. Can't wait to recreate them with friends.

Or as I like to call it, the race to Peter Pan’s Flight.
Disneyland California; hoping to fly over there when I complete the program.

A Bit over due

It's 44 days until I leave for Florida and thought I'd finally get started with my blog, after my other posts being deleted.

On Wednesday I visited the US Embassy to gain my Visa. I traveled down from Leeds and arrived in London to be greeted by the downpour of rain. After queuing up for half an hour in the pouring rain I entered the embassy and only had to wait 20 minutes to be seen at the first desk. The man really made me panic, explaining that I had to read this book that I would be questioned on. This panic was really unnecessary as when I was seen for my interview the man just asked if I had read the book. Next to me a woman was being interviewed and I heard the dreaded words "I'm sorry I will not be granting you a Visa today", my heart stopped for her, but also I became even more worried those words would be repeated to me, but luckily the man looked at me with a lovely smile and said I had been granted a Visa and to have an amazing time but to make sure I would say Hi to Mickey for him, surely that is the least I could do as he is the reason I am allowed into the country! Amazing man!!

I'm returning to Jersey in under two weeks, so I need to make sure I have most of my shopping. I began buying a few bits last week, then this week bought some pieces in London and Southampton. Next week I'm going to the Trafford Centre and meeting with Rach in Liverpool. My clothes will definitely be from all over the country.

Trying to find luggage to take to Florida which is proving quite difficult. Never realised how expensive a suitcase was!

I promise when I get to Florida my posts will be a lot more regular!
